Peer Tutoring at Georgia Southern University

Peer Tutoring with the Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center offers free peer tutoring services in core Math, Science, and Humanities courses for Georgia Southern students, both virtually and in person. Students on the Armstrong Campus will find us in the Student Success Center. Students on the Statesboro Campus will find us in the Henderson Library (first floor).

Please note: to ensure the maximum number of students can receive tutoring assistance, students may schedule up to (but no more than) four tutoring appointments per week.

While peer tutoring is provided for a variety of courses, it is not available in every subject area. However, we are happy to refer students to free tutoring services offered by academic departments or by Tutor.com (see below).


Peer Tutoring Across Campus

Engineering Learning Center

The Engineering Learning Center (ELC) on the Armstrong Campus serves as a place where students can get free tutoring from their peers for several challenging engineering courses. It is also a place to study, meet other engineering students, meet faculty, meet for study groups and build long-lasting friendships. Visit our website here.

CISM 2530 and BUSA 3131/3132 Tutoring

The Department of Enterprise Systems and Analytics is offering free tutoring for CISM 2530 and BUSA 3131/3132. Please contact the Department of Enterprise Systems and Analytics for more information.

Geology & Geography

The Geology and Geography Department has free tutoring for students taking introductory geology courses: GEOL 1121 lecture and lab & GEOL 1340 lecture and lab. These appointments will be hosted virtually through Zoom. Please contact the department for more information by calling 912-478-5361.

Math and Statistics Enhancement Room (“MASTER”)

The Department of Mathematical Sciences Math and Statistics Enhancement Room (“MASTER”) offers free tutoring to the Statesboro Campus for core Mathematics and Statistics courses. Located on the third floor of the Math/Physics Building in room 3000, students can drop in anytime during hours of operation without an appointment. Additionally, virtual tutoring is available on Fridays between 11:00 am – 2:00 pm; students should complete this request form 1+ hour before their desired virtual tutoring time.

Science & Mathematics Academic Resource & Tutorial (“SMART”) Center

The Science & Mathematics Academic Resource & Tutorial (“SMART”) Center offers free tutoring to the Armstrong campus by student tutors in Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, and Mathematics. In-person tutoring sessions are available on a drop-in basis (Science Center room 132). Appointments for virtual tutoring can be made through the EAB Navigate system. Student-Athlete Services

Student-Athlete Services has free tutoring available for Georgia Southern student-athletes through virtual platforms in Fall 2020. A limited number of in-person appointments are also available. Social distancing and masks will be required during these sessions. While tutoring is provided for a variety of courses, tutoring is not available in every subject area. Student-Athlete Services offers tutoring in core Math, Science, Humanities, and select Psychology and Sociology courses. To request an appointment, students should reach out to their Athletic Academic Advisor.

TRiO

Virtual tutoring will be hosted via Google Meet. Prior to attending a tutoring session, participants will be provided with a link to join each tutoring session from the TRiO Armstrong staff.

University Writing Center

The University Writing Center has free tutoring available for all Georgia Southern students both in-person and through our online platform. Visit the Writing Center webpage here for details. In-person appointments are available on both campuses on a drop-in basis. The Writing Center works with writing projects from all courses at all levels as well as application essays, posters, and other academic genres.
